Jasprit Bumrah set to be rested for 4th Test, likely to return for series finale in Dharamsala: Report

Team India are set to rest their strike bowler and vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah for the fourth Test of the five-match series against England after taking 2-1 lead, as per reports.

The decision to rest Bumrah is part of workload management by the Indian team. Bumrah, the leading wicket-taker of the series has already sent down 80.5 overs in the three games so far. So, if Bumrah is rested, Akash Deep would be in line to get a game.

The rest will mean nearly a 20-day break for Bumrah, before he returns for the series finale in Dharamsala, which kicks off on March 7. The return for the series finale will also depend on the result of the Ranchi Test. Similarly, Mohammed Siraj was rested for the second Test as he has been playing regularly for India in the last few months.

After a decisive 434-run victory over England in Rajkot, India leads the series 2-1 already. This was India’s biggest Test win in terms of runs, surpassing the 372-run victory over New Zealand in 2021. Set an improbable victory target of 557, England collapsed to 122 all out in 39.4 overs on day four.

Team India will be eager to clinch the series in the fourth Test match in Ranchi. The JSCA Stadium in Ranchi will host its 3rd GTest match overall. In the two games played there thus far, India has won one and the other ended in a draw.
