Yashasvi Jaiswal transitions from Mumbai to the Goa cricket team next season

Yashasvi Jaiswal, a promising Indian cricketer, shifts from Mumbai to the Goa team citing personal reasons, amid a challenging IPL season and recent Ranji performances.

Yashasvi Jaiswal transitions from Mumbai to the Goa cricket team next season

Yashasvi Jaiswal, one of the most promising young talents in Indian cricket, is set to make a significant shift in his career trajectory. The star batsman, who has been a stalwart for the Mumbai state team since his under19 days, has decided to transition to the Goa cricket team from the next season.

Jaiswal has reportedly emailed the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) seeking a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to facilitate this move. The change echoes similar decisions by fellow cricketers Arjun Tendulkar and Siddhesh Lad, who also swapped Mumbai for Goa in recent years.

Jaiswal's recent performances, especially in the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy for Mumbai, come after a challenging spell in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. With the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) mandating participation in domestic red-ball cricket for national team players, stars like Jaiswal, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli were seen returning to their state teams.

However, from the next season, Jaiswal will don the Goa jersey in domestic competitions. An MCA source revealed that Jaiswal cited personal reasons for his decision.

In the ongoing IPL 2025 season, Jaiswal has encountered a rough patch, scoring only 34 runs in three matches for the Rajasthan Royals. His average stands at 11.33, with a strike rate of 106.25, and his highest score being 29. RR's promising opener has had innings of 1, 29, and 4, reflecting the team’s struggle for favorable outcomes.

Jaiswal’s performance during powerplays since IPL 2024 has been a concern. He has been dismissed eight times out of 18 innings within the first three overs — a 44% dismissal rate — a marked increase from the 29% rate in the 2022 and 2023 seasons, during which he amassed 625 runs in the latter year.

The 2024 IPL season was below par for Jaiswal; he recorded 435 runs with an average of 31.07 and a strike rate nearing 156, scoring a solitary century and fifty.

Notably, his attacking shot percentage has decreased to 70% over the last two seasons, compared to the previous two seasons.

Jaiswal's move and current form will be closely watched by cricketing enthusiasts and could be pivotal in reshaping his career.
