'It wasn't the right time': Gavaskar expresses regret over controversial remark on Shane Warne

After facing a backlash by fans over his controversial remarks on Shane Warne following the legend's death, Sunil Gavaskar has expressed regret over his statement.

In a video message on Instagram, the former India captain said that all he wanted to do was to give an honest opinion when that question was asked of him.

'In hindsight, that question should not have been asked and I should not have answered as it was not the right time for any comparison or evaluation. Warne was one of the greatest players to ever grace the game. Rodney Marsh was also one of the best wicketkeepers. May their souls rest in peace.' Gavaskar said.

The 72-year-old found himself in the middle of a controversy when he called Warne's record in India pretty ordinary and added rated Muttiah Muralitharan over the late Australian.
