It's advantage South Africa after Dean Elgar's stunning hundred on day 2 of 1st IND vs SA Test

Towards the end of the day, South Africa seemed to be comfortably navigating the final session until India managed to take two quick wickets, slightly tipping the scales back in their favour.

It's advantage South Africa after Dean Elgar's stunning hundred on day 2 of 1st IND vs SA Test

Dean Elgar, in what is his swansong series, delivered a masterclass in batting on the second day of the Centurion Test, propelling South Africa into a commanding position. The southpaw crafted a magnificent innings, scoring his 14th Test century, which led the hosts to a promising position of 256/5 when play was halted due to bad light.

Remaining undefeated with a stellar 140*, Elgar will aim to further extend South Africa's lead over India on the third day. Currently, South Africa hold a slender 9-run advantage over India's initial innings total.

The day began with India concluding their innings at 245, headlined by KL Rahul's eighth century in Test cricket. India initially made a breakthrough by dismissing Aiden Markram early, but Elgar, together with Tony de Zorzi, wrested control with a robust 93-run partnership. Despite Jasprit Bumrah's twin strikes offering a glimmer of hope for India, Elgar's steadfast presence at the crease, complemented by debutant David Bedingham, steered South Africa to pole position following their 131-run association.

Towards the end of the day, South Africa seemed to be comfortably navigating the final session until India managed to take two quick wickets, slightly tipping the scales back in their favour. With Temba Bavuma battling a hamstring injury, India's immediate goal will be to dislodge Elgar early on day 3 to restrict South Africa's lead.

For South Africa, maintaining their momentum for another session or two could potentially position them to push India out of contention in the match. An enthralling third day of the Test awaits!
