Irfan Pathan's big praise for RCB's devoted fanbase despite IPL trophy drought

Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan recently expressed admiration for the unwavering support Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) receives from its fans, despite the team's ongoing quest for their first Indian Premier League (IPL) championship since the league's inception in 2008. RCB has reached the finals on three occasions—in 2009, 2011, and 2016.

Speaking to Star Sports, Pathan highlighted the unique bond between RCB and its fanbase, describing it as unparalleled within the cricketing world. "I have never seen a franchise-fan relationship like RCB and their fans. They have the most loyal fanbase in the entire world. They haven't won a single trophy. They came close a couple of times to winning that trophy," Pathan remarked, acknowledging the team's near-misses in clinching the coveted title.

Pathan went on to speculate on the impact of a potential IPL victory for RCB and Virat Kohli in the future, suggesting that it would represent a monumental achievement. "2016 was a very special season for him and RCB. I thought that was the year to win. If Virat Kohli and RCB win the title, that will be the biggest moment of IPL history, not just RCB history," he stated, underscoring the significance such a triumph would hold.

RCB's leadership underwent a significant change before the 2022 IPL season, with Virat Kohli relinquishing his captaincy role. Faf du Plessis, formerly of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), stepped in as the new skipper. Despite these changes, RCB struggled in the last season, finishing sixth and missing out on a playoff spot.
