IPL retention: Top 5 youngsters to get a whopping increase in earnings

The IPL trophy has a message inscribed in Sanskrit which translates to 'where talent meets opportunity'. True to its tagline, IPL produces several young stars every season and some of them grab the opportunity with both hands.

As the 8 IPL franchises retained a total of 27 players in the retention process, few youngsters got a whopping increase in their earnings. Let's take a look at the top 5 of those players.

Venkatesh Iyer

Venkatesh Iyer burst on the IPL stage in the UAE leg of the 2021 season and proved to be one of the biggest reasons for KKR reaching the final. He even made his India T20 debut soon after. KKR retained Iyer for ₹8 crores, which is a 3900% increase from his previous price of ₹20 lakh.

Umran Malik

He might have played just 3 games in IPL 2021, but Umran Malik's raw pace made people take notice of the Kashmir speedster. Sunrisers Hyderabad retained Malik ahead of Bhuvneshwar Pukar for a sum of ₹4 crores, which is a 3900% increase from his previous price of ₹10 lakh.

Ruturaj Gaikwad

Two back-to-back brilliant IPL seasons for Ruturaj Gaikwad were enough for the Chennai Super Kings to retain the opening batter for ₹6 crores. He was previously sold for a price of ₹20 lakh, which makes it an increase of 2900%.

Abdul Samad

Abdul Samad was another Kashmir lad retained by SRH for ₹4 crores. He got a 1900% increase in his earnings when compared to his previous price of ₹20 lakh.

Arshdeep Singh

Arshdeep Singh was one of the only 2 players retained by the Punjab Kings for ₹4 crores. He was previously sold for a price of ₹20 lakh, which makes it an increase of 1900%.
