IPL franchises allowed to retain 4 players ahead of the mega auction: Report

If reports in Cricbuzz are to be believed, the BCCI has told the IPL franchise owners that they can retain up to three Indian players and two overseas players with the overall count for retained players not crossing four.

The report added that it's unlikely that the existing franchises will be allowed to use Right to Match card at the mega auction. Any franchise that opts to retain four players will have to spend 35-40 percent of its money from the overall purse which is said to be 90 crore for each franchise for next year. The two new franchises may be allowed to pick 2 to 3 players from outside the auction.

Formal announcement on the retention rule is likely to be made after the two new franchises are brought on board. The sale of the two new teams is expected to take place on October 25 in Dubai.
