IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal reaffirms BCCI's stand on not allowing Indian players in overseas leagues

As the popularity of the Indian Premier League grows across the globe, IPL's new chairman Arun Dhumal has revealed his plans for the future of the mega-event.

The current chairman also dropped a major hint about whether BCCI would allow its contracted and non-contracted players to play in overseas T20 tournaments.

Dhumal revealed that the BCCI will stick to its decision of not allowing current players under the purview of the BCCI in leagues outside India as of now.

Dhumal believes there is already a lot of domestic cricket being played in India, and playing overseas would put more burden on players in an already hectic calendar.

The chairman also revealed the prospects of launching a women's IPL amidst growing popularity and also how the BCCI is planning to make IPL the biggest league in the world in the next few years.

Dhumal said that the IPL is set to retain its 10-team format, but subsequently increase the number of matches from 74 in the first two seasons, to 84 and then up to 94 games in the next five years if things go as planned.
