Indian women's cricket team win Gold at Asian Games 2023, beat Sri Lanka by 19 runs

In a historic triumph, the Indian women's cricket team achieved a long-awaited Gold medal victory at the Asian Games in Hangzhou.

Breaking free from their history of near misses in finals, the Women in Blue showcased their prowess, securing victory over Sri Lanka with a comfortable 19-run margin and thus marking India's maiden cricket medal in the annals of the Asian Games.

Under the stellar bowling performance by Titas Sadhu, who clinched 3 wickets for a mere 6 runs in her 4 overs, the Indian team emerged as Champions in China.

The foundation for this victory was laid by vice-captain Smriti Mandhana's impactful 46-run innings, setting a challenging target of 117 for Sri Lanka on a challenging pitch. While doubts lingered at halftime regarding India's ability to seize the final victory, the Women in Blue triumphed and shattered the jinx in Hangzhou.

Notably, this Gold medal victory for India's women's cricket team was the second Gold of the day for the nation, following the Men's 10m Air Rifle team event where the trio of Rudrankksh Patil, Divyansh Singh, and Aishwary Pratap clinched Gold.
