India tour of South Africa: Boxing Day Test likely to be played behind closed doors

Amid the emergence of a new Covid-19 variant Omicron, South Africa Cricket is not selling tickets for the 1st Test vs India. Hence, the Centurion Test starting December 26 is likely to be played without spectators.

According to local media reports, only some suite holders and delegates will be able to watch the match live. However, current Covid-19 restrictions implemented by the government allow 2000 fans in the stadium. The organisers are waiting to see if there are any changes to the restrictions next week.

Moreover, no tickets are on sale for the second Test beginning at the Wanderers from January 3 as f now. The official Twitter handle of the ground stated that it isn’t clear if fans will be allowed in the stadium. But they will make further announcements in due course.

India's tour to South Africa was in major doubt after the spike in Covid-19 cases in the country. But the 2 boards managed to keep it on but had to postpone it.
