India's tour to South Africa likely to be pushed back by a week amid Omicron scare

India's tour of South Africa is likely to be pushed back by a week as BCCI has reportedly sought more time to discuss the threat of a new Covid variant, Omicron which was discovered in the region.

According to a report in India Today, the Indian board has asked Cricket South Africa to consider pushing back the start of the much-anticipated tour. Team India was scheduled to fly out on December 8 or 9 after the Mumbai Test vs New Zealand, but the team is now likely to depart only on December 15 or 16. The BCCI will discuss the India tour of South Africa in its AGM on Saturday in Kolkata and a call is expected to be taken by Sunday.

India is scheduled to play 3 Tests, 3 ODIs and 4 T20Is between December 17 and January 26 in South Africa. The BCCI though wants to wait for the government to give a go-ahead to the tour.
