India penalised for slow over rate in 1st Test, lose important WTC points

India have slipped to 6th position on the WTC points table after the deduction of 2 points, which saw them go below Australia on the charts.

India penalised for slow over rate in 1st Test, lose important WTC points

In a development that could have far-reaching consequences in the ICC World Test Championship, India have been penalized with the loss of two crucial points during their opening Test against South Africa. This penalty is a result of India's failure to bowl the required number of overs, falling two overs short. In addition to the points deduction for the slow-over rate, the Indian team also faces a 10% deduction from their match fee.

The decision to impose this sanction was made by match referee Chris Broad. Broad's ruling found India to be short of their targeted overs.

This setback came in the wake of India's defeat in the Test match, which had initially placed them in the fifth position in the standings with 16 points from three Tests and a points percentage of 44.44. However, the deduction of points due to the slow over-rate has led to a further decline in India's standing. The team now finds itself in the sixth position, behind Australia, with a total of 14 points and a points percentage of 38.89.
