IND vs WI: Is KL Rahul better suited to bat in the middle order in ODIs?

KL Rahul's batting position in ODIs has always been debatable but it seems that the Indian team management might have got an answer to that problem.

Rahul returned to the ODI set-up in the 2nd game vs the West Indies and came out to bat with India in trouble at 43/3. He then stitched a 91-run partnership with Suryakumar Yadav and scored a free-flowing 48-ball-49.

Interestingly, KL Rahul has been very vocal about the fact that he loves opening the innings for India but statistics prove otherwise. Since Australia's tour to India in January 2020, KL Rahul has played 12 ODI knocks in the middle order and has scored 623 runs at a brilliant average of over 63. He has smashed 2 hundreds and 4 fifties during this phase. As an opener, Rahul overall has averaged 46 with 3 tons in 21 matches.

With an in-form Shikhar Dhawan set to return to the ODI set-up after recovering from Covid-19, KL Rahul may turn out to be the key to India's middle-order conundrum.
