IND vs WI: India create new world record during their whirlwind second innings against West Indies

It took 22 years but Rohit Sharma's men smashed a huge Test record during their second innings against West Indies on Sunday.

With a massive 183-run lead, India came out all guns blazing in the second innings. And in just 12.2 overs, India had reached 100, the fastest in Test cricket, overtaking Sri Lanka who had achieved the feat in 13.2 overs in 2001.

Apart from India and Sri Lanka, other teams to have made the elite list are only Bangladesh and England, with the Three Lions taking three spots out of five.

In 1994, England had reached 100 in 13.3 overs against South Africa at The Oval. The other two for England are much more recent.

With the advent of Bazball, England smashed 100s twice in 13.4 overs during their visit to Pakistan in 2022.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh's record 100 came against West Indies as well, in 2012, at Mirpur when the team achieved the milestone in 13.4 overs.

At stumps on Day 4, West Indies were 76/2 in 32 overs with R Ashwin removing Kraigg Brathwaite (28) and Kirk McKenzie (0).

The visitors need to defend another 289 runs on the final day to seal their victory.
