IND vs SL 1st ODI: Rohit Sharma explains why he withdrew the run-out appeal against Dasun Shanaka

Rohit withdrew an appeal for run out at the non-striker's end by Mohammed Shami after the batter had backed up too far, giving Shanaka an opportunity to complete his century.

After their 67-run win in the first ODI, India captain Rohit Sharma avoided a possible controversy by withdrawing the appeal for Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka's run-out at the non-striker's end on Tuesday.

In the post-match presentation, Rohit Sharma said that he had no idea Shami did that, he Shanaka was batting on 98. The skipper praised his batting and went on to add that he cannot be removed like that. 'Not something that we thought off', he added.

While Sri Lanka were never in the hunt, Shanaka's brave 108* off 88 balls was a glimmer of hope. However, the captain would not have scored 100 if not for the Indian captain's intervention. He withdrew an appeal for run out at the non-striker's end by Mohammed Shami after the batter had backed up too far, giving Shanaka an opportunity to complete his century.
