IND vs NZL: Smoggy start for the 1st Test in Kanpur, AQI around 350

The 1st Test between India and New Zealand started under a blanket of heavy pollution around Kanpur's Green Park Stadium.

The Air Quality Index was nearing 350 at the start of the match. Under these conditions, it is advisable to wear a mask, close the windows, use air purifiers and avoid outdoor exercises let alone play a game of competitive cricket.

In 2017, a game between India & Sri Lanka in New Delhi was halted multiple times due to air pollution.

Many Sri Lanka players had complained about breathlessness and nausea. The air quality in Kanpur is expected to improve through the day but will remain particularly hazardous during mornings on all 5 days of the Test match.
