Inaugural edition of Women's IPL to take place in March 2023: Report

The Women's IPL is all set to take place in March next year, with the inaugural tournament expected to feature five or six teams.

According to a senior BCCI official, the board has earmarked a 4-week window for the Women's IPL in March. With the Women's T20 World Cup in South Africa from February 9-26 next year, the first-ever WIPL is expected to start right after the showpiece event.

Earlier, both BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and Secretary Jay Shah had confirmed that the inaugural Women's IPL will take place in 2023. The BCCI has already advanced the women's domestic calendar to accommodate the marquee event. The inter-zonal one-day competition will end in Feburary next year, and the women's IPL should follow right after.

Many believe a standalone Women's IPL will bring about a revolution in the standard of women's cricket in the nation, and while the first edition is expected to be a month-long event, it could well become grander in years to come.
