ICC set to introduce new rules to limit impact of T20 franchise cricket

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is considering introducing two important rules to limit the increasing impact of T20 leagues on international cricket.

In addition to making leagues pay all the national boards a set amount of money for each cricketer they bring in, the ICC is planning to prohibit teams from playing more than four foreign players in their starting XI.

Two brand-new leagues, namely UAE's ILT20 and USA's upcoming Major League Cricket (MLC) that have emerged internationally this year will be the most concerned about restrictions on the number of foreign players allowed in the starting XI.

UAE's ILT20 currently allows 9 foreign players in the starting XI while USA's upcoming MLC will allow 6 foreign players as well.

Interestingly, BCCI has already been paying the concerned national boards a certain amount for each international player who plays in the IPL.
