How NCP supremo Sharad Pawar fared as cricket administrator

As Sharad Pawar announced his decision to step down as NCP chief, let's take a look at his life innings in not just Indian but world cricket.

Pawar was elected as the BCCI president in 2005 and remained as the Indian board's chief till 2008.

One of the most talked about moments during his tenure came during the 2007 ODI World Cup. Since the tournament was being held in India. Pawar came to hand over the trophy to champions Australia. But what followed left a bad taste in the mouth.

Australia skipper Ricky Ponting was in a hurry to get his hands on the trophy and pointed out in an offensive manner to hand him the trophy. Pawar was then even pushed by Damien Martyn as the Aussies wanted to celebrate.

Pawar was also the president of the International Cricket Council (ICC) from 2010-2012.

After that, he was re-elected as the Mumbai Cricket Association president in June 2015 for the third time.

But in December 2016, when he was 76 years old, Pawar had to step down as the MCA chief.

Had he not made that decision, Pawar would have been disqualified as a cricket administrator because the BCCI and its state units were to implement the Lodha committee reforms that suggested age and tenure caps for cricket officials.
