Harmanpreet Kaur: ICC suspends Indian captain for 2 games, will miss crucial Asian Games 2023 matches

India's women's cricket team captain, Harmanpreet Kaur, has been suspended for the next two international matches due to two separate breaches of the ICC Code of Conduct.

Harmanpreet's suspension means the Indian skipper will miss crucial knockout matches during the Asian Games in Hangzhou next month.

The 2-match suspension was on account of Harmanpreet accumulating 4 demerit points in two separate incidents in the final ODI of the ICC Women's Championship series against Bangladesh in Dhaka.

In the first incident, Kaur expressed frustration after her dismissal by hitting the wickets with her bat, leading to a Level 2 offence and a fine of 50 percent of her match fee along with three demerit points.

The second breach, where she publicly criticised the umpires during the presentation ceremony, resulted in a Level 1 offence with a 25 percent match fee fine and one demerit point.

Since Kaur admitted to the offences and agreed to the punishment, there was no need for a formal hearing.
