Hardik Pandya faces fans' wrath after hitting winning six in third T20I, here's why | IND vs WI

Hardik Pandya's winning six did not go down well with Indian cricket fans for a host of reasons, with several calling him a 'selfish captain'.

Hardik Pandya faces fans' wrath after hitting winning six in third T20I, here's why | IND vs WI

India may have saved face with their emphatic win over the West Indies in the third T20I but captain Hardik Pandya's winning six has not gone down well with the team's fans.

On the fourth ball of the 18th over, India required one run to win and Varma was a run away from his consecutive fifty in the T20I series.

But it was skipper Pandya who was on strike, and hit a winning six to finish the game.

Immediately, fans took to social media to blast the 29-year-old for his 'selfish' move.

On X, one wrote, 'Hardik pandya is the most selfish captain india has ever had, came to bat ahead of Sanju samson when chase was easy and at the end couldn't let young Tilak verma score a fifty.'

Fans were also enraged over Hardik Pandya's decision to come before Sanju Samson in a match which was already in India's favour.

Many called out Pandya, who had reportedly asked the 20-year-old to continue batting when India required 10 runs to win, saying that he had to win the game.

Another user questioned if this is how a leader should behave, 'Never seen a SELFISH Player like Hardik Pandya, Tilak was batting at 49 in hisa third game & Hardik finished the match with the six, this is how the LEADER should be? Pathetic!'

Pandya, who often speaks about MS Dhoni's influence on his career, was compared to the former captain by several fans.

A moment from the 2014 T20 World Cup was recalled where Dhoni played dot balls even as India needed 1 run to win so that a young Virat Kohli, playing at 68* could win the game for India.

'That's how you encourage talent!' one wrote, with a video of the Dhoni and Virat video.
