Former Sri Lankan cricketer Lahiru Thirimanne hospitalised after car accident

Former Sri Lankan cricketer Lahiru Thirimanne was involved in a road collision, which led to his hospitalization due to minor injuries. The mishap occurred in Thrippane, Anuradhapura, a city approximately 205 kilometres from the capital, Colombo. This unfortunate event took place early in the morning and was promptly reported by local news outlets on Thursday.

As per the details shared by 'Ada Derana', a reputable local media source, Thirimanne, aged 34, found himself in a precarious situation when the car he was a passenger in collided with an oncoming lorry around 07:45 a.m. This incident resulted in Thirimanne and three other passengers of the car, along with the lorry driver and an additional individual, sustaining injuries and subsequently being admitted to the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital for treatment.

Lahiru Thirimanne has been a prominent figure in Sri Lankan cricket, having represented the country in 44 Test matches and amassing 2088 runs, which includes three centuries. His One Day International (ODI) career is equally impressive, with 127 matches under his belt and a total of 3164 runs scored. Thirimanne has also made his mark in the Twenty20 International (T20I) format, playing 26 matches for Sri Lanka. His last appearance for the national team was in 2022, after which he announced his retirement the following year.
