David Warner: from being written off to becoming the World T20 player of the tournament

Many pundits and former cricketers had written off David Warner after poor form in IPL 2021 but the southpaw punched back to help Australia win the World T20 and win the 'Player of the tournament' award

David Warner: from being written off to becoming the World T20 player of the tournament

Australian skipper Aaron Finch may have had complete faith in David Warner but many cricket experts and even some fans had written off the southpaw.

Warner came into the T20 World Cup following a horrid IPL 2021 where he scored just 195 runs in 8 games. He was removed as SRH skipper midway and was also dropped from the team in the 2nd leg of the cash-rich league. Moreover, he also scored 1 and 0 in 2 warm-up games of the World T20 2021. Numbers might have been against the Aussie opener but he lived up to the faith shown in him by the team management and emerged as the biggest reason for Australia clinching its maiden World T20 title.

Warner took the tournament by storm and ended the tournament as the second-highest scorer with 289 runs in 7 innings at a strike rate of 146.7. His 3 half-centuries also came in crucial games for the Aussies.

As Warner received the player of the tournament award on Sunday night, it gave his wife Candice a chance to hit back at the critics. She taunted the critics in an Instagram post with a caption, "Out of form, too old and slow!".

With the next World T20 less than a year away, David Warner has not just restored his credentials as one of the most destructive cricketers of this generation but also sounded a warning to other teams
