A total of 16 wickets fell on Day 3 as Team India defeated Sri Lanka by an innings and 222 runs at the IS Bindra PCA Stadium in Mohali on Sunday.

It was yet another dominant show from the Indian cricket team on home soil as Sri Lanka failed to overcome the spin duo of Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin in both innings.

It was also a special Test match for Jadeja as he smashed an unbeaten 175 runs and took nine wickets in the match.

Earlier, India enforced the follow-on after bowling out Sri Lanka for 174 runs in the first innings.

Jadeja was the pick of the bowlers in the first innings and returned with the figure of 5-41.

Sri Lanka lacked spark in the second innings too. Captain Rohit gave the new ball to Ashwin who provided an early breakthrough and went on to take four wickets as Sri Lanka were bundled out for 178 runs.

As a result, the match ended inside 3 days with Team India taking a 1-0 lead in the 2-match Test series with the next match starting on 12th March in Bengaluru under lights.
