Confirmed: PM Narendra Modi to lay foundation stone for cricket ground inspired by Lord Shiva in Varanasi

On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for an international cricket stadium in his parliamentary constituency, Varanasi,

The Uttar Pradesh government, under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, invested Rs 121 crore in procuring the land for the stadium. The construction, estimated at Rs 330 crore, will be undertaken by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Cricket icons like Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, and Ravi Shastri are expected to grace the ceremony.

The stadium's design will resonate with the "essence of Kashi," featuring unique elements such as crescent-shaped roof covers, trident-shaped floodlights, patterns resembling bel leaves, and a structure resembling a 'damru,' a musical instrument associated with Lord Shiva.

The spectator gallery will mimic the steps of Varanasi's ghats, offering a seating capacity for 30,000 spectators and seven pitches.

Situated near the Ring Road in Rajatalab area, the stadium is projected to be completed by December 2025, according to official sources.

Key personalities from the BCCI, including President Roger Binny, Vice President Rajiv Shukla, and Secretary Jay Shah, will be in attendance. This new stadium will mark Uttar Pradesh's third international cricket venue, following similar facilities in Kanpur and Lucknow.
