Border Gavaskar Trophy: Kapil Dev Rallies Behind Rohit Sharma Amid Rising Criticism

Border Gavaskar Trophy: Kapil Dev Rallies Behind Rohit Sharma Amid Rising Criticism

Former cricketer Kapil Dev has defended Rohit Sharma amidst criticism following India’s 10-wicket loss in the Adelaide Test. Kapil urged patience, stating it’s unfair to judge Rohit’s captaincy based on one poor result in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

India started the series strongly, with Jasprit Bumrah leading the team to a 295-run win in Rohit’s absence in Perth. However, under Rohit’s leadership, India faltered in Adelaide, where his personal form was underwhelming. Batting at No. 6, he managed just 9 runs across two innings, continuing his struggles against pace.

Kapil highlighted Rohit’s proven track record, including leading India to a T20 World Cup win a few months ago. “Let’s not doubt Rohit Sharma’s ability to bounce back. He has nothing to prove; his achievements speak for themselves,” Kapil said, expressing confidence in Rohit’s ability to recover from setbacks.

The former captain dismissed concerns about Rohit’s leadership, pointing out that even stalwarts like MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli faced similar scrutiny after consecutive Test losses. Kapil urged fans to focus on the team’s collective potential rather than individual lapses.

Rohit’s discomfort against pace was evident, as Australia’s Scott Boland and Pat Cummins dismissed him cheaply in Adelaide. He will face mounting pressure in the third Test in Brisbane starting December 14, where India will look to bounce back against a dominant Australian side.
