Stokes hasn't been named in England's T20I squad against South Africa but will play in the ODI series against the Proteas. Stokes will also miss England's professional franchise 100-ball cricket tournament, The Hundred.
The 30-year-old became England Test captain in April after Joe Root stepped down from the post. England under Stokes then went on to win the series against New Zealand 3-0 and also beat India in the fifth rescheduled Test against India.
Stokes was also rested for the T20I series against India.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India announced the squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 on Monday.
While Virat Kohli and KL Rahul have returned to the side, Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel will be missing due to injury. Deepak Hooda and Ravichandran Ashwin have also been named in the Rohit Sharma-led Indian squad. 
Arshdeep Singh has been retained for the Asia Cup, Avesh Khan will also be given a chance when India begins their campaign on August 27 in UAE.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar will be seen leading the fast bowling UNIT, while the responsibility of the spin department will be on the shoulders of Ravi Bishnoi and Yuzvendra Chahal. Kuldeep Yadav however could not find a place in the 15-member squad.  
BCCI has named Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel, and Deepak Chahar as standby.

While Hetmyer did manage a fifty for his efforts, the next best score for the Indies was just 13. They were bowled out for exactly 100, losing the match by 88 runs and the series 4-1.

Australian cricketer Tahlia McGrath had tested positive for Covid-19 before the final of the CWG T20 game against India. The all-rounder despite contracting the Coronavirus played the gold medal match. McGrath who showed mild symptoms returned a positive test on Sunday. However, the Commonwealth Games Australia allowed her to participate in the match after consultation from CWG medical experts group, Cricket Australia confirmed in a statement. Her participation was also approved by International Cricket Council. The Australian board further in its statement said that to minimise the risk of transmission a range of comprehensive protocols have been implemented which will be observed throughout the game and for post match activity.The Aussie did not line up for the national anthem and was seen sitting alone in the dugout. However, McGrath who was dismissed after scoring 2 came out to bat without the mask. Later, McGrath came out for fielding and caught Shafali Verma, but was seen celebrating the catch at a distance from her teammates.
