After a four-year intermission, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has revived its esteemed Naman Awards, celebrating the pinnacle of cricketing talent across the nation. This long-awaited event saw the BCCI acknowledging and rewarding the cricketers who have remarkably contributed to the sport over the past four years, ensuring that the accomplishments of these athletes were fittingly honored.

During the ceremony, the Polly Umrigar Trophy, a symbol of cricketing excellence, was awarded to four outstanding Indian cricketers for their exceptional performance in international cricket. Mohammed Shami was the recipient for the 2019-20 season, followed by R Ashwin for 2020-21, and Jasprit Bumrah for 2021-22. Shubman Gill, recognized for his extraordinary performance, clinched the award for the 2022-23 season, highlighting his meteoric rise in international cricket.

In the women's category, Deepti Sharma and Smriti Mandhana were the celebrated winners, with Sharma being named the Best Women's Cricketer for the 2019-20 and 2022-23 seasons. Mandhana, the women's team vice-captain, was honored for her stellar contributions during the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons. Their achievements underscore the dynamic talent and dedication present in women's cricket.

The ceremony also paid tribute to cricketing legends from the past, with Ravi Shastri and Farokh Engineer being bestowed with the Col. CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award. This recognition serves as a testament to their enduring legacy and significant contributions to Indian cricket.
