BCCI making up for Covid-19 cancellations? Board makes gain of ₹218 crore from bilaterals

With packed scheduling and seven captains being used in the current year, fans have been pondering if Team India was playing too much cricket.

According to a report in the Hindustan Times, BCCI has been gaining on the lost ground that it failed to do so during the two years of the Covid-19 pandemic. While using their good relations with other boards, BCCI is not only overcoming the entire revenue shortfall but making good profits as well.

The report states that the Indian board will make a profit in excess of Rs 218 crore from the broadcaster Disney Star after gaining the lost revenue for the 2018-2023 period, as per a BCCI internal financial note.

The report further stated that in 2020-21, BCCI's prime focus was holding the suspended IPL and T20 World Cup.

In order to manage the workload of players going forward, BCCI secretary Jay Shah recently said that the board will have a pool of 50 players on their roster which can help to depute two teams simultaneously.

Notably, the Indian cricket team have played back-to-back series in recent months with more bilateral series lined up ahead of the T20 World Cup in Australia.
