Australia's Aaron Finch retires from international cricket

Aaron Finch, who led Australia to their first T20 World Cup title win has called time on his international career after he announced his retirement from the T20I format.

Finch, the captain of the Australian side in the shortest format of the game retired from ODIs last year. The 36-year-old who began his international career in 2011 leaves as Australia's leading run scorer in the 20-over format with 3120 runs at an average of 34.28 and a strike rate of 142.53.

Finch who announced his quitting while speaking to reporters at MCG, said that because he feels he will not be able to play in the 2024 T20 World Cup, now was the right time to step down. Winning the maiden T20 title and the 2015 ODI World Cup, Finch said are his most cherished memories.

The white ball cricket star who will continue to play franchise cricket and domestic T20 games further added, 'To be able to represent Australia for 12 years and play with and against some of the greatest players of all time has been an incredible honour'
