Asia Cup Final 2023: Maheesh Theekshana ruled out due to hamstring tear | India vs Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka are already without several key players, including Wanindu Hasaranga, Dushmantha Chameera, Lahiru Madushanka and Lahiru Kumara, who are all out due to injuries.

Asia Cup Final 2023: Maheesh Theekshana ruled out due to hamstring tear | India vs Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka's spinner, Maheesh Theekshana, has been ruled out of the Asia Cup final against India on Sunday due to a hamstring tear. His absence is a significant blow to Sri Lanka's campaign in this crucial match.

Theekshana sustained the injury during the Super 4 fixture against Pakistan on Thursday while fielding. His performance has been pivotal in Sri Lanka's journey to the final, securing eight wickets at an average of 29.12 in the competition.

With 31 wickets in 15 matches at an impressive average of 17.45 in 2023, Theekshana stands as Sri Lanka's highest ODI wicket-taker for the year. The injury puts his participation in the upcoming ODI World Cup, where Sri Lanka face South Africa on October 7, in jeopardy as well.

In response to this setback, Sri Lanka have brought in off-spinner Sahan Arachchige as a replacement. The team has been grappling with injuries to key players, as seen with the absence of Dushmantha Chameera and Wanindu Hasaranga in the Asia Cup.

Theekshana's absence will be deeply felt, and Sri Lanka will need to regroup and find a way to fill the void left by the talented spinner. The Asia Cup final is a high-stakes encounter, and the team will need to adapt and give their best to secure victory without one of their star performers.
