Earlier, England resumed their innings from the overnight score of 30-0 but lost the wicket of Haseeb Hameed and Dawid Malan early. Joe Root and Ben Stokes saw off 26 overs before Scott Boland removed the English captain. Stokes looked determined to save the Test match for but his 123-ball 60 runs knock came to end with more than 25 overs left in the day.

Jonny Bairstow and Jos Buttler stayed on the fort next 10 Overs before Cummins took the wickets of Buttler and Mark Wood in the same over. Chasing an improbable 388-run target, England scored 270-9 in their second innings

Australia have already retained the Ashes and now the fifth and final Test will be played at Hobart from January 14.
