All you need to know about Women's IPL 2023 - teams, overseas players, venues, squad size details

The Board of Control for Cricket in India is planning a 5-team Women's IPL for its inaugural season, with the tournament set to take place in March 2023, immediately after the Women's T20 World Cup that finishes on February 26.

Editorji has accessed BCCI's proposed plan for the long-awaited tournament which is expected to have 22 matches in its first edition, with each team playing the others twice.

The squads of the 5 franchises will be comprised of 18 players, with a maximum of 6 overseas stars allowed. No more than 5 overseas players will be allowed in the playing XI, with 4 from full member nations and 1 from the associates.

The league topper at the end of 20 matches will head straight into the final, while the 2nd and 3rd placed sides will battle it out in an eliminator for a place in the finale.

Instead of the home & away format, the tournament in all likelihood will be played in the caravan format at just two venues for the 2023 season.

While the Indian board has earmarked a clear 25-day window for the Women's IPL, it is likely that the marquee women's T20 competition will clash with the Women's Pakistan Super League.
