Madrid, July 16 (AP) In a significant move, Atletico Madrid has reached an agreement to secure the services of Argentina international Thiago Almada from the Brazilian club Botafogo.

The Spanish club announced on Tuesday that the 24-year-old attacking midfielder, currently on loan to French club Lyon, will put pen to paper after successfully completing his medical examination with Atletico.

The details of the transfer fee and contract duration were not disclosed by Atletico. However, Spanish media reports suggest that the transfer is valued at approximately 25 million euros ($29 million). It also notes that Botafogo will retain a share of any future transfer fee should Almada move to another club.

This acquisition comes in the wake of forward Ángel Correa's departure to Mexican club Tigres. Almada will enhance Atletico's attacking lineup that already features fellow Argentine Julián Álvarez, Antoine Griezmann, and Alexander Sorloth.

To bolster the squad further, Atletico had earlier signed midfielder Álex Baena from Villarreal and 22-year-old Italian left-back Matteo Ruggeri from Atalanta.

Last season, Diego Simeone's side finished third in the La Liga standings, trailing Real Madrid and champions Barcelona. Unfortunately, they faced an early exit during the group stage of the Club World Cup.
