CWG 2022 Day 6 HIGHLIGHTS:  Tejaswin wins India's first medal in Athletics; Women's cricket team in semis

IT IS A SPLIT DECISION, Ashish Kumar loses one of the best matches he played by the barest of margins. But all Indians anywhere in the World will be proud of him for displaying his fierce fighting spirit.

A comprehensive team effort helped India seal a semifinal spot in women's T20 cricket. 

Chasing a 163-run target, Barbados managed to score only 62 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs. India pacer Renuka Singh was the pick of Indian bowlers as she took 4 wickets and concedes only 10 runs.

With a well-compiled unbeaten half-century from Jemimah Rodrigues, India post a 163-run for Barbados. Earlier,  Shafali Verma went thrashed the bowlers all round the park and scored 43 runs off 26 balls, including seven boundaries and a SIX. 

Deepti Sharma supported Rodrigues during the 50-run stand for 5th wicket and scored 28-ball 34.

Gurdeep fails to lift 173kg in his third attempt, he is currently in joint third position after the conclusion of the Snatch series.

With a lift of 167kg, India's Gurdeep Singh is currently at the third spot.

It seems Nikhat Zareen is trailing in the last round as Wales' Helen Jones come up with great combination of punches.

However after the end of third bout, Nikhat looks confident for a semifinal spot. She wins the quarterfinal and storms into the semis, thus assuring India yet another medal.

After winning the match,  Nikhat wishes her mother, a HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

World Champion Nikhat Zareen is heading for victory after winning the second bout with a unanimous decision again.

With two failed attempts in the clean and jerk series, India's Purnima Pandey is certainly out of medal contention.

With a lift of 125kg, Tonga's Kuinini Manumua takes lead over India's Purnima Pandey.

Purnima Pandey fails to lift 108 kg in her third attempt. She is almost out of medal contention given one of her competitors has lifted 107kg in the snatch series.

After failing to convert the first two penalty corners, Harmanpreet Singh does not falter during the third one and gives India 1-0 lead against Canada.

India's match aganst Canada begins. After the first two minutes in the first quarter, none of the both teams have found the back of net.

It is one of the closest bouts seen in recent times, Namibian boxer ended the third round with a series of punches. But it was the Indian boxer who prevailed as Mohammed Hussamuddin won the quarterfinals in Men's 54-kg-57kg category and assured a medal. This is second boxing medal assured today.  

Mohammed Hussamuddin looked good with his combination of punches in the second bouts. And he is leading after the first two rounds. 

Namibia's boxer can come back in the last round, this is going to be a nail-biter as the third round begins.

He needs to come good in the next two rounds. 

India's women's hockey team have stormed into the semis after beating Canada 3-2 in a must-win game. 

With two minutes left in the last quarter, India continue to maintain the one-goal lead over Canada.

In a desperate attempt, Canada have withdrawn their goalkeeper. A do or die for both the teams

As the contest between Nitu and Nicole Clyde gets abandoned, India's two-time World youth champion storms into the semis and secures atleast a Bronze in the Women's 48 kg category.

India take the crucial one-goal lead on Canada in the 50th minute. Now Savita Punia's side need to maintain their lead to confirm a place in finals.

With a series of punches, Nitu wins the first round easily. And in the second bout, she is showing his defensive skills. 

Medal confirmed for India's Tulika Maan in Judo.

She's through to the final and will fight for gold in the Women's +78kg category.

The third quarter ended with Canada looking good while lacking the quality they showed in the first quarter.

The Canadians covert the penalty corner successfully. India team again choking in the last two quarters. Notably,  Savita Punia's side need to win this match for semis qualification.  Draw won't be enough

In the third quarter, India are not able to control the ball in the midfield. They are losing crucial ball possession. However, Canada lack the steam too and not able to do forward press as they would like.

At halftime, the Indian women's team have a one-goal lead on Canada.

Indian judoka Tulika Maan beats Mauritious' Tracy Durhone to reach women's +78kg semifinals.

In the second quarter both teams have scored a goal each. India are leading two goals to nil.

With a total lift of 355 kg, India's Lovepreet Singh is currently at third position. Samoa's Jack HITILA OPELOGE and Cameroon's  Junior Periclex NGADJA NYABEYEU are currently at the first two spots with one and two more lifts left respectively, in Clean and Jerk series 

At the end of first quarter, Indian women's team is leading the game by one goal.

India's Lovepreet is successful with his third and final attempt of 192 kg. A new national record once again!

With three more lifters still left, Lovepreet Singh might get a Bronze medal in the 109kg category. Stay tuned will provide you all the latest update. 

India women's take the lead through a penalty corner. While the Canadian goalkeeper manages to stop Gurjit's dragflick but Salima is there to score from close range.

Lovepreet is going for 185 kg in his first attempt.

He goes into the lead for now with a successful lift.

For his 2nd lift, he has set the bar at 189 kg.

And he once again goes into the lead with a successful lift. A new national record for the man from Amritsar!

Other big lifters remain though.

India's Deepak Deswal loses to England's Harry Lovell-Hewitt in 100 kg category. Beaten by Ippon

Tulika Maan will be in action shortly in the Women's 78 kg quarter-final.

Indian women's team face Canada in a few minutes from now. The Women in Blue need a victory to qualify for the semi-finals after their loss against England last night. Let's see how this goes!

The women's pair of Lovely Choubey & Nayanmoni Saikia won their match against their opponents from Niue 23-6.

Lovepreet aiming for 163 kg here and that's the best of the lot. He moves into joint lead with the Canadian for now. Samoan weightlifter left with his final lift. He's moved the bar to 164 kg.

The Samoan Jack Hitila Opeloge goes into the lead with his successful lift. So, Lovepreet is joint second right now.

161 kg for Lovepreet with his 2nd attempt and he has completed it with ease. He's currently the leader of the pack.

He'll move the bar to 163 for his final attempt in Snatch.

Meanwhile, Canada's Pierre-Alexandre Bessette has lifted 163 kgs to go into the lead.

Lovepreet Singh is successful in his first attempt of 157 kg. Didn't look troubled by the weight at all.

Looks like he'll go for 161 kg with his 2nd attempt.

India's Deepak Deswal is through to the quarter-finals of Men's 100 kg after beating Eric Fouda from Cameroon by Ippon.

He will take on Harry Lovell-Hewitt of England next.

In Men's singles, India's Mridul Borgohain has defeated Chris Locke of Falkland Islands 21-5.

India's Lovepreet Singh will be in action shortly in the Men's 109 kg category. The lifter has put his 1st attempt for Snatch at 145 kg right now. Could change though later on.

Oh hold on! Lovepreet's Snatch attempt has now been changed to 157 kg, which means he's gunning for Gold since it's the highest in the field.

In Men's singles, India's Mridul Borgohain is currently leading 19-4 against Chris Locke of Falkland Islands after 12 ends.

In Women's Pairs, India duo of Lovley Choubey & Nayanmoni Saikia are currently leading 16-4 as well against Niue.
