Is winning a bronze or silver not enough? An emotional Pooja Gehlot sparks a debate

Tears rolling down wrestler Pooja Gehlot's eyes may make one feel that she failed to win a medal at Commonwealth Games 2022 but she was upset for settling for bronze and not clinching gold in the Women's 50kg Freestyle Wrestling.

There was a time when winning an international medal was a far-fetched dream for many Indian athletes but here we are today where just ending up on the podium isn't enough for them.

It's gold or nothing for Indian athletes as winning a silver or a bronze doesn't satisfy their hunger. Pooja's comments sparked a debate whether no one remembers about those who finish 2nd & 3rd and the gold medallist get the maximum recognition?

Well, as India dominate in many disciplines like wrestling and weightlifting and now even win medals in track and field events at the commonwealth Games, settling for a bronze may not be that big a deal now. However, in an event like the Olympics, which is the grandest stage of them all for the athletes, ending up on the podium is a way bigger achievement irrespective of the colour of the medal.
