White fonting: People are trying to outsmart AI resume filters with this hack

Outsmarting AI resume filters with the controversial practice of "White Fonting" raises ethical concerns and potential consequences for job seekers and employers.

White fonting: People are trying to outsmart AI resume filters with this hack

The AI-powered tools are being used for several things and one of their uses includes filtering resumes so that humans can review and shortlist them. However, humans have come up with a hack to outsmart the AI filter tool. This hack is called 'White fonting'.

This practice involves strategically adding keywords and phrases in white font to their resumes, effectively making them invisible to human eyes but visible to AI algorithms. However, this tactic raises ethical concerns and may have unintended consequences for both job seekers and employers.

The idea is to embed relevant keywords and phrases in white font colour, making them invisible to the human eye but ensuring that ATS algorithms pick up on these hidden keywords. The goal is to boost their chances of making it through the initial screening process and increase the likelihood of their resume reaching the hands of a human recruiter.

The consequences of "White Fonting" can be far-reaching. If employers become aware of this tactic, it could damage the credibility of all applicants, making employers more skeptical about the validity of resumes. As a result, companies may become more reliant on AI algorithms, further depersonalizing the hiring process and diminishing the chances of genuinely qualified candidates.

Moreover, if companies update their ATS to detect and filter out resumes using this tactic, job seekers who resort to white fonting may find their efforts backfiring. Their resumes could be flagged as suspicious or even rejected outright, leading to missed opportunities and further frustration.
