Parents take note! Your genes are key to your child's academic success

According to a recent study, children's educational success depends on the genes of their parents, both inherited and not inherited. The research was published in the American Journal of Human Genetics.

For the study, researchers reviewed and analysed 12 studies in several countries. The team used the polygenic scoring method to study the influence of millions of genetic variants on educational attainment in nearly 40,000 parent and child pairs.

The findings confirmed that genes a person inherits directly are most likely to contribute to their achievements in education. Researchers also discovered that genetic nurture (the environment parents provide for their children) has a significant effect on a child's educational success.
