Navratri 2023: Importance and significance of Day 5; worshipping Maa Skandamata

The fifth day of Navratri is dedicated to Devi Skandamata, the fifth manifestation of Goddess Durga. In Sanskrit, 'Skanda' signifies purity, and it is also linked to the god Kartikeya. 'Mata' translates to mother, signifying her role as the divine mother of God Kartikeya, also known as Skanda.

As a loving and protective mother, Goddess Skandamata is characterized by her compassion. By venerating this form of Maa Durga, one can aspire to achieve prosperity and lead a fulfilled life.

As explained by Vedic Astrology Teacher & Counsellor, Bani Singh Chadha, mata Skandamata is the agni and shakti. She has four arms which symbolise the four aims of our life- Dharm, earth, kaam and moksha. Maa Skandamata holds 2 lotus in her hands one representing the sun and other the moon. Devotees can pray to her for a peaceful life, happiness and self-realisation. Devotees can offer her orange colour things because orange is the colour which helps us attract opportunities in a more positive way.
