Killfie: Why are people risking their lives for just a selfie?

Technology has gripped humans in such a way that there’s no going back. The world is now grappling with the effects of AI but way before that mobile phones and social media have alraedy made us their slaves.
We are talking about this as the number of people losing their lives while taking photos, videos or selfies is increasing day by day.

For example, in a recent incident a woman was swept away by waves during high tide in Mumbai. She was seen sitting on a rock amidst huge waves along with her husband while her kids clicked their photos from a distance.

A wave suddenly hit them both and the woman fell off into the water and got drowned. Her body was found by the police 20 hours after the incident.

These kinds of incidents are called ‘killfie’ where people get killed while taking selfies. As you can see these visuals from past incidents where people take risks for just a photo.

Even though this term came into existence around 2016, when about 127 deaths were reported worldwide and 76 people died in India alone, while taking selfies. And India topped the list in killfie deaths. Since then, incidents have only increased but people still seem to have not learnt a lesson.
