Whether it’s controlling blood sugar or losing weight, sitting could be your biggest enemy in achieving these goals. The more you spend time sitting or resting, the more you are likely to develop risks of chronic diseases.

How sitting adversely affects health

Published in the JAMA Open Network, concluded that even 22 minutes of daily exercise could be the key to balancing the impacts of prolonged sitting. Sitting for long periods is associated with a sedentary lifestyle, which can contribute to a lack of physical activity. Regular physical activity is essential for maintaining overall health and reducing the risk of various chronic conditions such as obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and certain cancers.

How to live an active life

According to experts, mini movements throughout the day can reduce the ill effects of sitting all day. Studies have shown that even 22 minutes of daily exercise could be the key to balancing the impacts of prolonged sitting. Here are some steps you can take to increase your daily steps.

  • Take small breaks in between your work and stroll around.
  • Bring your own coffee, water and do not rely upon a help or someone else to do your job.
  • Walk atleast for 10-15 after every meal.
  • Take stairs instead of lift or escalators.
  • If you have a pet then take it for a walk so that you can enjoy nature, bond with your pet and increase your steps.

So, sit less and move more.
