Scientists have now found microplastics in human hearts, here's all you need to know

In a recent discovery, scientists have made a surprising finding – they found tiny bits of plastic called microplastics inside human hearts. This discovery is a significant concern and raises questions about the potential impact on our health.

A team of researchers from Beijing Anzhen Hospital in China has made a concerning discovery. They examined the heart tissue of 15 patients who had undergone cardiovascular surgery. This study, which has been published by the American Chemical Society, reveals the surprising presence of microplastics in the heart tissue samples.

For those unaware, microplastics are incredibly small pieces of plastic, much tinier than a grain of rice. They are often created when larger plastic items break down over time due to various factors like sunlight and water. Microplastics are found in many places, including the ocean, soil, and even the air we breathe.

How Did They Get Inside Our Hearts?

According to researchers, it's not entirely clear how microplastics made their way into our hearts, but there are a few possibilities. One way could be by consuming or inhaling tiny plastic particles that then travel through our bloodstream and eventually reach our hearts. Another way could be through the food we eat or the air we breathe, as microplastics are found in both.
