Is sparkling water bad for your teeth and gut? Here is the truth

Do you love having some sprakling water or any other carbonated beverage? Beware! Some of these drinks have high pH levels and hence are more acidic. These are not just harmful to your teeth but also you gut!

Is sparkling water bad for your teeth and gut? Here is the truth

Many of us love having carbonated drinks including sugary soft drinks, sodas, and sparkling water. However, have you ever wondered how these drinks are affecting your teeth? Sparkling water is seen as a healthier alternative to sodas and has recently gained a lot of popularity. However, it can cause many problems for your teeth and your digestive system.

How does sparkling water affect your health?

According to Washington's post, in a 2016 study, pH levels of nearly 400 beverages were tested. The results were shocking as they showed that most beverages including sports drinks, sodas, juices, flavoured water, and fruit punches had a low pH - hence they are more acidic.

Beverages that have a low pH have the potential to wear away tooth enamel over time, particularly when consumed in larger quantities. Drinking these beverages now and then may not cause an issue, but regular consumption does.

Other than that, sparkling water has CO2 that causes burping and bloating. These sodas are also high in artificial sweeteners and may cause diarrhea and alter your gut microbiome.

Make sure to consume every drink (except plain water) in extreme moderation to have a healthy gut and teeth!
