IMD issues warning ahead of severe heat waves, follow these tips to protect your family this summer

As summer begins, the IMD has issued warning about severe heat wave from April to June, with temperatures potentially reaching 40 degrees Celsius in many areas.

To prevent heat stroke, stay hydrated and drink 8-10 glasses of water daily, use fans or coolers indoors and block sunlight with shades or curtains. Remember to wear, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and light-coloured loose clothing when you step outside. In this scorching heat avoid intense workouts to prevent heat stroke.

Also, refrain from going out on an empty stomach during heat waves to avoid dizziness.

Tips to stay safe from heatwave

Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day to prevent dehydration. Aim for at least 8-10 glasses of water daily, and avoid sugary or caffeinated drinks, as they can contribute to dehydration.

Keep Cool Indoors: Use fans or air conditioning to stay cool indoors. If you don't have access to air conditioning, consider visiting public places like malls or libraries that are air-conditioned.

Block Sunlight: Close curtains, blinds, or shades to block out direct sunlight and keep your home cooler.

Wear Appropriate Clothing: Opt for lightweight, loose-fitting, and light-colored clothing to help reflect sunlight and heat. Wearing a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses can also provide additional protection from the sun.

Limit Outdoor Activities: Try to limit outdoor activities, especially during the hottest parts of the day (typically between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.). If you need to be outside, seek shade whenever possible and take frequent breaks in a cool or shaded area.

Use Sunscreen: Apply sunscreen with a high SPF (Sun Protection Factor) to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. Reapply sunscreen every two hours, especially if you're sweating or swimming.
