Covid-19 vaccination: Study finds Covaxin vaccine has adverse side effects. All you need to know

After Covishield, now research and reports suggest that Covid-19 vaccine Covaxin also has side effects. This report comes weeks after Covishield maker AstraZeneca accepted that their vaccine may have rare side effects. Now, a recent study has highlighted the side effects of Bharat Biotech's Covaxin with nearly a third of the participants reported experiencing adverse events of special interest (AESI) following vaccination. Covaxin users report adverse side effects

According to a report by Times Now, a new study has found that adolescent females and those with a history of allergy are at a higher risk of adverse events of special interest or AESI after receiving Covaxin. They cited a report on SpringerLink, an integrated platform for journals and other materials published by Springer. Springer is the observational research conducted by Banaras Hindu University. They have written in their report that about one-third of the population jabbed with Covaxin has reported AESI.

The Economic Times reported that of 1,024 individuals enrolled, 635 adolescents and 291 adults could be contacted during the year-long follow-up. The study revealed that at least 47.9 per cent of adolscents and 42.6 per cent of adults reported viral upper respiratory tract infections.

What is AESI?

According to experts, AESI is a defined condition that occurs in some people following immunization, with the potential to be causally associated with a vaccine product.

AESI include anaphylaxis, myocarditis, and thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome, characterized by blood clots and low levels of platelets.
