Amid the rising cases of cholera in Bengaluru, you need to make sure that the water you drink is pure and non-contaminated. Cholera is a severe diarrheal disease, that is primarily caused by ingesting contaminated food or water.

The common symptoms of cholera

  • Severe watery diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Dehydration
  • Muscle cramps
  • Nausea
  • Rapid heart rate (tachycardia)
  • Low blood pressure
  • Thirst
  • Dry mouth and dry skin

Precaution of cholera

Drink only safe and clean water: Consume water that has been boiled, treated with chlorine, or obtained from a safe, reliable source. Avoid drinking untreated water from potentially contaminated sources.

Practice proper sanitation: Use latrines or toilets for waste disposal, and ensure they are located away from water sources to prevent contamination. Wash hands frequently with soap and clean water, especially before eating, after using the toilet, and after caring for someone who is ill.

Follow food safety measures: Eat only thoroughly cooked food and avoid raw or undercooked seafood, fruits, and vegetables that may have been washed with contaminated water.

Maintain personal hygiene: Keep personal belongings clean, including utensils, cookware, and eating surfaces. Avoid sharing food, drinks, and eating utensils with others, particularly during outbreaks.
