Amid Meteorological Department's warning about the unusual rise in temperatures, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare issues a health advisory to protect against the heat waves this summer. 

Amid the unusual rise in temperatures, The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has released a warning against the heat waves ahead of summers 2023. Following this, The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has issued an advisory of dos and don'ts.

Dos

  • Always remember to drink a sufficient amount of water to keep yourself hydrated. Consume more ORS, lemon water, lassi and fresh juices.
  • Wear loose-fitting, lightweight and light-coloured clothes to help your body breathe and control sweating.
  • Use of sunscreens is a must and don't forget to reapply.
  • To keep your home cool, use proper curtains and shades, grow lots of indoor and outdoor plants and open windows at night.
  • Use an umbrella, sunglasses, hat and towel whenever you step out.
  • Take frequent cold showers and preserve rainwater to promote harvesting.
  • The Ministry further has asked citizens to keep themselves updated about the local weather news.

Don'ts

  • Avoid going out in the sun, especially between 12 PM to 3 PM
  • Do not keep your children or pets in parked vehicles as the temperature inside the vehicle could be dangerous.
  • Avoid drinking carbonated drinks which dehydrate your body.
  • Do not exercise during hotter times of the day, rather prefer cooler times.
  • Avoid high protein non-vegetarian food; prefer fresh and light food.
  • Try to avoid cooking during the peak hours of the day and eat smaller and more digestible meals.
  • Always avoid direct sunlight and do not step out barefoot.
