Gen Z opts for 'NATO' dating in 2023; here is all you need to know about the relationship phenomenon

Gen-Z has a new way of dating and it will surely leave you interested and surprised. For the new generation, the journey is more important than the outcome. According to Tinder’s annual ‘Year in Swipe’ report, Gen-Z are looking for relationships that are more about what happens during the dating phase than focusing on the outcome. Among the top trends dating app Tinder observed this year was NATO. Let us learn more about this!

What is NATO way of dating?

No, NATO does not mean the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (in dating terms). NATO means Not Attached To an Outcome! According to a report by the dating app, Gen-Z is more concerned about the experiences in the relationship rather than worrying about where it is going. This open approach helps them to explore and not close themselves to all the possibilities. 2023 saw a major shift in dating trends with young singles looking for more open opportunities rather than closed relationships.

“Not Attached To an Outcome (N.A.T.O) dating, as the name suggests, refers to singles who are less concerned about the outcome of a relationship and more interested in enjoying the process of getting to know someone,” Tinder explained in their year-end report.

Tinder also revealed that the most common term used on dating app bios was 'delulu'.
