G20 Summit: Konark temple’s historic wheel served as backdrop, know all about its importance

India welcomed several leaders from across the world for the G20 summit. But, what made it extra special was the amazing backdrop they used – a giant stone wheel known as the Konark Chakra from the Konark Sun Temple in Odisha.

The Konark Sun temple is famous for its beautiful architecture and sculptures, and it's even recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.

At the summit venue, the Konark Chakra backgrop bears the G20 logo on one side, and on the other side, it proudly displays the Sanskrit phrase 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,' which translates to 'One Earth. One Family. One Future.'

History of Konark Wheel:

The Konark Wheel came into existence during the 13th century under the rule of King Narasimhadeva-I. This impressive wheel, featuring 24 spokes, serves as a remarkable symbol of India's ancient knowledge, architectural prowess, and highly developed civilization.

Important features of the Konark Wheel:

• Sun Dial: Back in ancient times, people used this wheel to tell time accurately, just like a clock.
• Symbol of Life: The wheel represents the cycle of life, which is one of the core Hindu beliefs.
