As Navratri approaches, many people prepare to observe fast as a way to honour the festival's spiritual significance.

However, fasting doesn't have to mean sacrificing essential nutrients.
In an interview, with Indian Express nutritionist Aradhana Singh, emphasised the importance of maintaining a well-balanced diet during fasting.

She recommended starting your day with warm lemon water to cleanse the digestive system, followed by a fruit salad or smoothie made with fresh fruits. For snacks one can opt for nuts like almonds, walnuts, and makhanas roasted in ghee are also great options.

For lunch, the nutritionist suggested a light meal like sabudana khichdi paired with curd or buttermilk and in the evening, coconut water or herbal tea along with a few slices of fresh fruit can be consumed.

For dinner, choose vegetable soup or kuttu atta roti, both of which are easily digestible. Before bed a glass of milk spiced with turmeric or cardamom can help promote peaceful sleep.
